Abofour’s Long Awaited Dream; A District Of It’s Own

Abofour, a thriving town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, is still awaiting the realization of its long-held dream of becoming a district. Despite its rapid growth and strategic location along the main Kumasi-Techiman highway, Abofour remains a subsidiary of the Offinso South district.

The town’s residents have been advocating for a separate district status for years, citing the need for improved infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job opportunities. The creation of a new district, to be named Offinso Central, would enable Abofour to have its own assembly and chief executive, allowing for more autonomy and targeted development.

It’s a matter of justice and equity, not a political football to be kicked around by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Abofour’s bid for district status should not be used as a campaign message by either party, but rather a genuine response to the needs and aspirations of the people.

Abofour deserves a district status, not as a political favor, but as a right. The town’s growth and development should not be held hostage by partisan politics. The government should prioritize the needs of the people and grant Abofour the district status it rightfully deserves
